THE LE GOLFE TAKE

Choose the village for a half-day out-and-back hike, or compare the shorter Les Vernades loop on Visorando. Keep each route’s distances and directions separate.

Which San Peïre?

This guide covers San Peïre at Le Plan-de-la-Tour. Searches for San Peyre or Sanpeire may point elsewhere: Mandelieu has a San Peyre hill, and San Peïre is also a neighbourhood in Les Issambres.

Use the official route name, “Chemin vers le San Peire”, and check the commune before choosing your start.

Village or Les Vernades: choose your start

The village route follows the official guidebook: 6 km and 2 hours one way, or around 12 km to return on the same path. Four hours excluding stops is a planning estimate. Our map marks the GPX start; locate authorised parking separately.

The alternative is the loop published on Visorando from the Les Vernades area. Use that route’s own figures and directions, including current reports about Chemin des Chèvres access and parking.

The route in outline

Trail 24 continues the Gorgues walk, numbered 22 A. Find Chemin de la Planète, Magnan, Terre Rouge and track E713 on the official map. A smaller final path leads through the oppidum remains.

Use the downloaded official instructions and waymarks at junctions. This outline introduces the walk rather than providing turn-by-turn navigation. Avoid inventing a shortcut for the return.

Make room for the view

Granite and cork oaks shape the climb. In clear visibility, the summit looks towards the Golfe, the Maures and the Estérel. Leave time to stop rather than turning the summit into a hurried checkpoint.

Our suggestion is a cool morning with good visibility. Bring grippy walking shoes, your water and sun protection. Rocky ground and awkward sections require care; this route is unsuitable for pushchairs.

Check access on the day

Consult the prefecture’s forest access map and local notices before leaving. Published walking routes may be temporarily closed; current restrictions and signs take priority.

After rain, in significant heat or uncomfortable wind, choose another outing. Set a turnaround time that leaves daylight for the return. There will be another day for the summit.

Practical questions.

How far is each route?

From the village, the official guidebook lists 6 km one way: allow around 12 km including the return. The Les Vernades loop on Visorando lists 6.66 km in total. These are separate routes.

Is it a good first hike?

The official route has awkward sections and a high difficulty rating. Pont des Fées offers a shorter, easier introduction.
