VILLAGE · LE PLAN-DE-LA-TOUR
The Authentic
A few kilometres inland from Sainte-Maxime, the rhythm changes completely: lanes, terraces, hamlets, forest and hills. You are still in the Golfe, without living inside its bustle.
THE LOCAL VIEW
“Quiet — at once far from and close to the noise of the coast.”
The right plan here is not to tick boxes. Walk the village, stop on a square, have lunch, then head into the hills. Le Plan works because it does not try to imitate Saint-Tropez.
LE PLAN, AT ITS OWN PACE
01 · MORNING
Walk through the centre, cross the squares, watch the village wake up and take your time over coffee. You do not need a complicated itinerary here.
02 · LUNCH
Le Porche is one of the addresses worth knowing. La Place and Le Moulin remain on our local shortlist, with details to be confirmed before final publication.
03 · OUTSIDE
Leave the streets and you quickly reach maquis, cork oaks, granite blocks and tracks linking the hamlets and hills around Le Plan.
BEYOND THE VILLAGE
Le Plan is much more than its centre. Much of its character lies outside it: hills, forest tracks, hamlets and ancient traces scattered across the landscape. The Saint-Sébastien dolmens and the remains encountered around San Peire are reminders that this territory was occupied long before the villas and coastal roads.
SAN PEIRE
San Peire is one of the outings that makes Le Plan make sense. The trail passes the remains of an oppidum before gaining height. From the top, the view opens over the Mediterranean, the Golfe de Saint-Tropez, the Maures and Esterel massifs and, in clear air, the first Alps. This is not a flip-flop walk: some sections are rated medium to difficult.
WHY STAY HERE
That may be the best summary of Le Plan-de-la-Tour. Spend the day in Sainte-Maxime, at the beach or elsewhere in the Golfe, then come back to a village moving at a different speed. Over a week-long stay, that contrast can matter more than being a few kilometres closer to the sea.
MOOD
Village life, hills and hamlets.
BEST FOR
Families, couples, walkers and quiet stays.
CAR
Very useful for enjoying both the village and the coast.
SUMMER
Always check forest access during wildfire-risk periods.
