Tour de l’Horloge de Cogolin

STONE KEEPS THE VILLAGE’S MEMORY.

In the upper part of old Cogolin, the clock tower recalls a time when the lanes formed a defended village. Our idea: walk up, look at the dark stone and the remains of the former gateway, then continue towards the Saint-Roch chapels without returning to the car.

FIND YOUR RHYTHM

WALK. LOOK. FOLLOW THE VILLAGE’S STORY.

01

A gateway before a clock tower

The tower belonged to the defences protecting the village and its castle. A ramp and drawbridge provided access. Our advice: look at the structure and stone before looking for a clock face; the present name reflects another stage in its history.

02

Walk up from central Cogolin

Use authorised parking in the centre, then follow the old village lanes towards Montée des Aloès. The walk goes uphill: adapt your pace to your group and the heat. The map marks the monument rather than a parking space at its foot.

03

Dark stone and local history

The tower’s basalt reflects the volcanic ground on which Cogolin developed. A clock was added in the 16th century. Its former 1587 bell later moved to the parish church, giving you a reason to connect these two stops in your walk.

BEYOND THE FIRST LOOK

Continue towards the chapels and church

Our suggestion: combine the tower with the Saint-Roch chapels and Saint-Sauveur–Saint-Étienne for a coherent village outing. This guide covers exterior discovery; it does not promise indoor stairs or a climb to the top. Ask the tourist office about current guided visits.
