Plage du Canadel

SAND, SEA AND THE COAST’S MEMORY.

At Canadel, the beach combines a sheltered-looking bay with an important chapter of coastal history. Our idea: come for sand and sea, then make time for the landing memorial. Plan the final walking approach: a good beach day begins with a well-chosen arrival.

FIND YOUR RHYTHM

PLAN THE APPROACH. ENJOY THE SHORE.

01

Look beneath the surface too

The sand and marine habitats are part of Canadel’s appeal. Posidonia meadows are living habitat: observe without collecting or trampling. For swimming, read the day’s flags and notices; a rescue station does not guarantee lifeguards throughout the year.

02

Approach from the Voie Verte

The tourist office describes walking or cycling along the Voie Verte, then taking Avenue de la Méditerranée, Avenue du Docteur Ratynski or Avenue de France towards the beach. Follow local signs and allow for gradients. Beach approaches involve steps: ask about suitable access if needed.

03

Drive from the D559

The office identifies parking near the chapel, opposite the necropolis and the road to Col du Canadel. Follow current signs and finish on foot; the map marks the shore, not that car park. In summer, arrive early where possible and keep an alternative if spaces are full.

BEYOND THE FIRST LOOK

Remember the Provence landings

A memorial recalls the African Commandos’ landing during the night of 14–15 August 1944. Our suggestion: pause for that history before or after your beach time. A later visit to the Patec or Domaine du Rayol requires a separate journey rather than simply continuing along the sand.

THE USEFUL DISTINCTION

THE BEACH MARKER IS NOT THE CAR PARK.
