Autumn brings another side of the Golfe into focus. In La Garde-Freinet, chestnuts gather people around the market stalls and give village life a seasonal flavour. This is a chance to discover Provence through its wooded hills, harvests and popular gatherings, spending a Sunday in the inland heart of the area.

The village festival committee organises a gathering centred on chestnuts, chestnut products and regional food. Roasted chestnuts and entertainment accompany the market. Our suggestion: explore the stalls before choosing a break, leaving room to discover what is available on the day.

The official 2026 programme lists 18 and 25 October and 8 November, from 9 am to 6 pm, on Place de la Mairie. Admission is free and the event is weather-dependent. These dates describe this edition only and should not be carried over to another year.

The Conservatoire du Patrimoine du Freinet separately offers activities exploring chestnut trees and their history. Check its current programme for a guided outing and book when required. Joining a forest walk is a separate arrangement from free entry to the village market.
