From the village you look up towards it; from Croix des Maures you see the village differently. This hilltop monument offers a viewpoint in the heart of the Maures. Our suggestion: give it its own time, with a planned approach and room to observe the landscape.

Croix des Maures was consecrated on 3 May 1900. The tourist office describes a six-metre monument restored in 1978. Our idea: look at both the cross and the village below, finding streets and squares visited earlier.

Plan your arrival towards Croix car park, then follow local directions to the monument. The official point marks the cross, not a parking space. Reaching this viewpoint and continuing on the Fort-Freinet hike are separate stages.

The combined listing describes 3 km, around 1½ hours, 100 m elevation gain and difficult sections. Those figures concern the full circuit. Before continuing towards the fort, check the track, weather, terrain and forest access.
BEYOND THE FIRST LOOK
Our suggestion: combine the viewpoint with a village walk or the Conservatoire. Leave time for the return and avoid tight appointments after the walk. Follow local notices and postpone the climb in unsuitable conditions.
