LOCAL LIFE · SAINT-TROPEZ

LES LICES

THE MARKET IS ONLY HALF THE STORY.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the square becomes Saint-Tropez's main market. The rest of the time it returns to village life: plane trees, cafés, pétanque and local rhythm.

LE GOLFE VIEW

“Les Lices become more interesting when you come back after the market.”

The market is the spectacle. Understanding the square also means seeing it return to everyday use: boules players, terraces and the flow between the harbour and the old town.

A MORNING AT LES LICES

Arrive before Saint-Tropez speeds up.

01 · 08:00

Market early

The market runs Tuesday and Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm. An early arrival makes the experience much easier.

02 · 10:00

Look more, buy less

Fresh produce, flowers, crafts, clothes and objects mix together. The scene is as much the point as the stalls.

03 · AFTER

Come back for the square

Outside market hours, Les Lices returns to being a meeting place. That is when Saint-Tropez feels more like a village again.

PÉTANQUE

The square still works when “nothing” is happening.

That is exactly why it matters: it is not only a tourist backdrop or a market. It is a square used, crossed and lived in year-round.

TIMING

Market day means market traffic.

Saint-Tropez Tourism recommends arriving before 8:30 am for a more comfortable visit in high season. Tuesdays and Saturdays place extra pressure on roads and parking.

HOW TO USE IT

Start here. Then leave the square.

Les Lices is an excellent starting point for the old town, La Ponche and the Citadel. We would not give it half a day alone; we would make it the first chapter of a Saint-Tropez morning.

MARKET

Tuesday + Saturday, 8 am–1 pm.

LOCATION

Central Saint-Tropez.

MOOD

Market, cafés, pétanque.

BEST TIME

Early on market days.

LE GOLFE WOULD PICK IT FOR

  • — A first Saint-Tropez morning
  • — The Provençal market
  • — Watching village life
  • — Starting point for the old town

KNOW BEFORE YOU CHOOSE

  • — Busy in peak season
  • — Parking is tighter on Tuesdays and Saturdays
  • — The market is not the whole experience
